Biography:

Katelyn King is a self-taught photojournalist, and director based in Washington, DC. She discovered her passion for photography at 13, using it as a means of self-expression. Over the years, her style evolved, ranging from conceptual and fantastical portraiture to documentary street photography and captivating landscapes. What sets Katelyn apart is her unique perspective, masterful use of color and composition, immersive approach to storytelling, and ability to foster community through her work.

Born and raised in Maryland until the age of 11, she later moved to Delaware and eventually settled in North Carolina with her family. While pursuing her associate's degree, Katelyn discovered a passion for sociology, recognizing the potential to make a meaningful impact through her art. This realization led her to abandon her studies and embark on a journey of internships throughout the country, focusing on humanitarian and environmental causes.

During her travels, Katelyn's artistic expression primarily manifested through landscape photography. However, after settling in Washington, DC in 2019, she rekindled her passion for portraiture and photojournalism. In addition to her freelance portraiture and community-based initiatives, Katelyn curated several "Passion Projects" which she produced, cast, directed, shot, and edited. These projects catapulted her career to greater heights, garnering acclaim across the region. In 2021, Katelyn published a powerful photo book documenting the protests that erupted in Washington, DC, following the tragic murder of George Floyd. The following year, "Alternative Renaissance" was showcased on a striking 55-foot LED Billboard in Downtown Baltimore. Finally, in 2023, Katelyn's contributions earned her a feature in the esteemed publication known as the Washington Informer Bridge and an interview through Canvas Rebel. Since 2022 Kateyn has also been producing an interview series for the creative entrepreneur, called Painfully Positive.

Katelyn's journey as a self-taught photojournalist and director has been one of passion, growth, and community engagement. Through her art, she continues to capture the essence of the world around her, taking viewers on a visual and emotional journey and garnering a sense of community.
