Stand With Breonna
Heading home from a protest and passed an unfinished mural in BLM plaza by @yaytuneday. I was very taken by what she’d been working on so I took a picture of her tag to reach out. I wanted to photograph her finishing the mural. The next time I walked by that area it was completely destroyed, painted over w black spray paint. At that time almost every building in and around the national mall was closed and boarded up with wooden planks. Despite the blatant disrespect to her work, @yaytuneday decided to start again from scratch, this time on H st. right around the corner from BLM Plaza. Honoring the life of Breonna Taylor, she finished this mural in one sitting. I was honored to witness and document her talent in action and activism. Shortly after she finished, the art tunnel was removed from H St. A little over two years later and her artwork was preserved and to be featured in “The Utopia Project: inspiration for Creative Activism at the @smithsonianacm.
